What to expect

Many people consider May the best month for tiger sightings, and also the hardest on the body. Mornings are bearable, afternoons less so. If you can handle the heat, your odds are at their highest.

Tip: Choose a resort with reliable air conditioning, and drink far more water than you think you need.

Still have questions?

We usually reply within a few hours.

1 What is the best time to visit Bandhavgarh National Park?

It depends on what you want. March to June gives the best chance of a tiger because animals gather near water, but it is very hot. November to February is cooler and brilliant for birds and photography. The core safari zones are generally closed in the monsoon, roughly July to September.

2 Which month is best for tiger sighting in Bandhavgarh?

April, May and June are widely considered the best months for tigers, as water is scarce and animals visit the same waterholes. Sightings are never guaranteed, so plan at least three safaris whatever the month.

3 Is Bandhavgarh open in the monsoon?

The core safari zones are generally closed from about July to September. Resorts remain open, usually at lower rates, but you will not get the usual jeep safaris. Check the current opening dates with us before you travel.

4 Is it too hot to visit Bandhavgarh in summer?

It is hot, often above 40°C in the afternoon in May. Safaris run early in the morning and late in the afternoon, and most people rest in air-conditioned rooms at midday. If you can manage the heat, summer gives the best tiger sightings.

5 Is winter a good time to visit Bandhavgarh?

Yes, especially for comfort, birdwatching and photography. Mornings in an open jeep can be very cold from December to January, so dress in layers. Tigers are a little harder to spot than in summer because water is plentiful.

6 What is the cheapest time to visit Bandhavgarh?

The monsoon usually has the lowest rates, but the core zones are generally closed. Within the safari season, October, November and February tend to be quieter and easier on the budget than the holidays or the hot summer months.

7 When should I book my Bandhavgarh safari?

For March to June and the late December holidays, book two to three months ahead. For the rest of the season, a few weeks is usually enough. Popular zones and the better rooms go first.

8 What should I pack for Bandhavgarh?

In summer, light cotton clothes, a hat, sunscreen and plenty of water. In winter, warm layers, a windcheater, gloves and a cap for dawn drives. In every season, earth-toned clothing and a valid photo ID for each guest.
