Before you book

Where to Stay in Bandhavgarh National Park

Most people end up staying in or around Tala, the village beside the main gate, and there is a simple reason for it. Safaris leave at first light, so the closer you sleep to your gate, the longer you get to sleep. Resorts and jungle lodges are spread along the roads to the Tala, Magadhi and Khitauli gates, and a handful sit further out in quieter forest.

Styles and prices vary a lot. A plain, clean room might be all you need if you plan to spend every daylight hour in the jeep. If you are celebrating something, or travelling with parents or small kids, a better room and a proper restaurant make the trip far more relaxed.

Our job is to match you with a stay that fits your dates, group and budget, and to make sure it works with the safari zone you are booked into. Our featured luxury and premium stays are just below. Below you will find the main types of stays, which side of the park suits which traveller, and the questions worth asking before you pay a deposit.

If you are still working out the trip itself, start with how to reach Bandhavgarh or the safari zones and entry gates.

Types of Resorts and Jungle Lodges in Bandhavgarh

There is no single “best” resort in Bandhavgarh. The best one is whichever fits how you travel. Here is how the main kinds of stays differ.

Luxury and premium

Spacious rooms or cottages, a proper restaurant, naturalists on site and often their own safari vehicles. A good fit for honeymooners, photographers and anyone who wants real comfort between drives.

Ask about: a private naturalist, room category, what meals are included.

Luxury · Premium

Family-friendly

Open grounds, rooms that sleep three or four, food that kids will actually eat and staff used to early starts with children in tow.

Ask about: extra beds, child meals, safety around the property.

Budget and backpacker

Clean rooms, hot water, a decent breakfast and a short ride to the gate. Plenty of repeat visitors choose these because they spend the whole day inside the forest anyway.

Ask about: AC or cooler, packed breakfast, pickup from the station.

Jungle lodges and eco-stays

Fewer rooms, more forest around you and quiet evenings. They are often a little further from the gate, so the pre-dawn drive is longer.

Ask about: drive time to your gate at dawn.

Location matters

Which Side of the Park Should You Stay On?

The gate you enter by decides the length of your morning drive. This is a rough guide. Check the exact distance with your resort once your safari zone is confirmed.

Smart questions

How to Choose the Right Resort in Bandhavgarh

Photos and star ratings only tell you so much. These are the questions that actually separate a smooth trip from a stressful one.

  1. 1

How far is the gate for my zone?

Ask for the drive time before sunrise, not just the kilometres. Forest roads are slower than they look on a map.

  2. 2

    What happens about breakfast?

Safari jeeps leave early. Ask whether they pack breakfast, and what is arranged for lunch when you return late.

  3. 3

    Who books the safari?

Permits are allotted by the forest department for a set zone and slot. Confirm who is booking, which zone you will get, and whether the jeep and guide are in the price.

  4. 4

What is included in the price?

Meals, taxes, transfers and naturalist fees are the usual surprises. Get the total in writing.

  5. 5

Is the room comfortable for the season?

Summer afternoons are very hot and winter mornings are cold. AC, a cooler or a heater is not a luxury here.

  6. 6

Does it suit everyone in the group?

Check extra beds, child meals, stairs and how easy it is to get around the property if someone has trouble walking.

  7. 7

    What if plans change?

Weather, a delayed train or a park closure can shift things. Ask about rescheduling and the cancellation terms before you pay.

Plan ahead

When to Book and What Affects the Price

Season moves prices more than anything else. Here is how the year usually breaks down, and how far ahead to book.

March to June

Peak tiger season

Many people come now for the best sightings. Book two to three months ahead if you can.

Late Dec to early Jan

Holiday rush

Rooms fill fast over the holidays. Book two to three months ahead for the best choice.

Rest of the open season

Easier to plan

A few weeks ahead is usually fine, though the gate side you want can go first.

Roughly July to September

Monsoon

Resorts cut their rates, but the core safari zones are generally closed. Check current dates with us first.

Before you compare

What Changes the Price

Beyond the season, the price usually comes down to a few things.

  • The room category, and how new or well kept it is
  • How close the resort is to your gate
  • Whether meals, taxes and transfers are included
  • How many people are sharing the room
  • Whether the safari jeep and naturalist are part of the package

Comparing two quotes?

Make sure you are comparing the same things. A lower room rate with meals and transfers charged separately can end up costing more than a package that looks pricier on paper.

Send us the quotes you have and we will tell you which one is really cheaper.

FAQ

Bandhavgarh Resorts: Your Questions Answered

Quick answers about booking your safari, zones, timing and stays. Can’t find what you need? Talk to our team.

Still have questions?

We usually reply within a few hours.

1 Which is the best area to stay in Bandhavgarh?

For most first-time visitors it is the Tala side, around the village next to the main gate. Most resorts, lodges and restaurants are there, and the drive to the gate before sunrise is short. If your safari is booked in Magadhi or Khitauli, it can be worth staying on that side instead so you are not driving half an hour in the dark.

2 Can I stay in Umaria town and visit the park from there?

You can, and some people do, especially on a tight budget or when arriving by train. The catch is the distance. Umaria is roughly 30 to 35 km from the park, so allow around 45 to 60 minutes each way and set an earlier alarm for morning safaris.

3 Do resorts in Bandhavgarh arrange the safari too?

Many do, but it is worth asking exactly what they mean. Safari entry is allotted by the forest department for a particular zone and time slot, so confirm who is booking the permit, which zone you will get, and whether the jeep and guide are included in the price.

4 How early should I book a resort in Bandhavgarh?

For March to June and the late December to early January holidays, two to three months ahead is sensible, because the better rooms go first. For the rest of the season a few weeks is usually enough. Last-minute rooms do turn up, but you may not get the gate side or room type you wanted.

5 Are there good budget stays near the park?

Yes. A clean room, hot water, a simple breakfast and a short ride to the gate is all many travellers need, since they spend the whole day in the forest anyway. Tell us your budget and we will shortlist stays that stay comfortable at that price, rather than just the cheapest.

6 Are meals usually included?

Many resorts sell packages that include breakfast, lunch and dinner, since there are few places to eat out near the gates. Others price rooms only. Always check what is included, and ask about a packed breakfast on safari mornings, because the restaurant may not be open when you leave.

7 Is Bandhavgarh suitable for children and older travellers?

Yes, with some planning. Choose a stay with family rooms and easy access to the gate, keep an eye on small children around the property (wildlife can wander near the edges of the forest), and pick afternoon safaris if early mornings are hard. Tell us who is travelling and we will match the stay.

8 Can I visit and stay in the monsoon?

Resorts stay open and cut their rates in the monsoon, roughly July to September, but the core safari zones are generally closed then. If seeing tigers is the point of your trip, plan for the open season. Check the current dates with us before you book.
